JOHN GLESSOFF #51 52 ANCESTORS IN 52 WEEKS

JOHN GLESSOFF  #51   52 ANCESTORS IN 52 WEEKS

JOHN GLESSOFF was my husband’s maternal Grandfather.  He came from Russia with his wife ALEXANDRIA CONACOVA, who I wrote about in the #6, in 1899.

The couple travelled from Petrograd, Russia to Bremen, Germany and then arrived in New York harbor June 6, 1899.  The made their home in Elizabethport, New Jersey after travelling first to St. Louis, Missouri with a friend from Russia.  They weren’t able to get work in Missouri so came back to the Northeast.  JOHN GLESSOFF was a machinist and work near the docks of New York Harbor.

I found JOHN GLESSOFF in the 1910 New Jersey Census with his family of four children, Florence, Walter, Valentine, and Mary and his wife Alexandria.  Unfortunately, JOHN GLESSOFF died May 16, 1910 of prostrate cancer.

Death Certificate of John Glessoff dated May 16, 1910

According to his death certificate he was born in 1872 and was 38 years old.  I believe the information to be fairly accurate because his wife gave the information.  The death certificate also states that his parents were Nicholas and Anna.

Many records from Russia are now being put on line and I am hoping in the near future to be able to find something on JOHN GLESSOFF  and his life in Russia.
