In February I started blogging about the sisters of my Great
Grandmother, MARY MCCRUDDEN. Her sisters
ELIZABETH, CATHERINE, ANNIE, AND THERESA all followed Mary from Ireland to New
York. Only ANNIE stayed in New
York. The other sisters travelled out to
California and lived the rest of their lives in the San Francisco area. I have completed blogging about ELIZABETH
MCCRUDDEN, her husband GEORGE MULRANEY and their children.
I will now relate the information I have found on my Great
Grandmother’s sister ANNIE MCCRUDDEN.
ANNIE MC CRUDDEN was born in Ireland November 1852. The only place I have found any birth date
for ANNIE has been in the 1900 census where they must indicate the month and year of birth1. ANNIE must have gotten married in Ireland to
someone named MC MANUS because her daughter was born (according to census
records) in Ireland in 1875. Also,
indicated on the census, ANNIE immigrated to New York sometime between 1885 and
1887. Her daughter MARY MC MANUS married
JOSEPH O’DONNELL in 18992.
ANNIE lived with the O’DONNELL family from 1900 until she died in 1934.
They first lived in Manhattan then they are in Queens in the 1930 census.
MARY and JOSEPH O’DONNELL had 8 children, Catherine, Joseph
Jr., John, Margaret, William, Anna, Mary and Stephen.
ANNIE MC CRUDDEN MC MANUS died December 26, 1934 at the age
of 823. If she was 82 when she died she would have been born in 1850
so there is a question of her birth year.
I will try to find her birth record in Ireland.
I am still looking for ANNIE’s marriage record and a birth
record for her daughter. I also want to
find where she is buried.
While looking
at the census records I noticed she always lived near several of our relatives,
one being the Hickey family. I don’t
ever remember hearing of these two family names growing up but my sister said
our father did mention the O’Donnell name in conversation.
